For this Sunday… a SUPER MOON

This weekend  you will be able to see a super moon.   What exactly is a super moon and how often can you see it?

FACTS ABOUT THE SUPER MOON:

According to Bruce McClure and Deborah Byrd of earthsky.com  “…a new or full moon which occurs with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit (perigee). In short, Earth, moon and sun are all in a line, with moon in its nearest approach to Earth.”

The super moon will appear up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than a normal moon. The wolves will be howling and the sky bright during the Super moon, when the lunar orbit is closest to the Earth.”

LIVE WEBCAST.…if you can’t see it from where you are.

If you are interested in watching live webcast of the super moon  on Sunday beginning at 9 p.m. EDT (0100 June 24 GMT), courtesy of the online Slooh Space Camera, an online sky watching website.    Simply click here     (http://www.slooh.com).

Here are a few pictures that I took on Saturday from my home in Florida…after a rain had just passed through.   There it was…the Super Moon! (pictures below)

PS….Tonight, Sunday,  I was down by the lake waiting for the next great show of the Super Moon….when along floated a big one…perhaps out to watch the moon as well.   Just had to share his picture even though it was getting pretty dark.  Thought I better go back to the house to watch the live webcast…..not that I was afraid of a 10 foot gator or anything…even though they can run 30 miles per hour and can be aggressive when they are looking for a mate.   Just adds to the drama of the night!
