N.W.BOYER…Christian Author… Looking for the Coming of Christ

To Do or Not to Do

As we begin a new year, we are faced with many decisions. Some of these have to do with our health, professions, family matters or other things not mentioned here. Indecisiveness is not usually looked upon as a good thing…yet we may question that. Giving ourselves time to weed out our second thoughts may be exactly what we should do. Looking to God for guidance is what we should be doing and giving Him time to let us know what His thoughts may be for us.

This blog is not to say “Yes, you should do…” or “No, you shouldn’t do” such and such, but to try to share some spiritual thoughts that I believe God wants us to consider.

First of all, God tells us in His Holy Word…NOT TO PANIC. When all around us seems to be making a racing dash to something…or somewhere…it may be that we should sit quietly and not join the frenzy…whatever it is. Panicky and desperate thoughts only brings anxiety which isn’t good for us mentally or physically. Waiting until others have calmed down, while walking your own quiet path, may be the best decision for the time being.

Do not be afraid of sudden panic or of the storm that strikes the wicked for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.” (Proverbs 3: 25,26)

Have you ever laid awake at night thinking and rethinking about some concern? Proverbs also has a reassuring word about your sleep: “…you will walk in your way securely and your foot will not stumble. If you sit down, you will not be afraid. When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet...” Proverbs 3:23,24

We also can be assured that God will answer our call for His guidance. I love the prayer that is found in the Episcopal Prayer Book:

” O God, by Whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light riseth up in darkness for the godly: Grant us in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what Thou would have us to do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that in Thy light, we may see light and in Thy straight path may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

Whatever you are struggling with today, give it to Christ, the Lord and Savior. Sit quietly and pray. He is your support and He will lead you in His way for all your decisions…to do or not to do.
