Be Still

It isn’t easy to “be still” when everything around us is moving so fast. What does it take to be quiet when “raging” is the word of the day and night? What does it take to keep my soul at rest and know that God cares about our world and about me, as small as I am in His universe?

God tells us in the Psalm 46 to “Be STILL, then and know that I am God…” This is said after previous verses speaks of “the Nations make much ado and the kingdoms are shaken.” Basically, it is saying that GOD IS IN CONTROL when it doesn’t seem like He is.

From the beginning of this Psalm, we are told:

“God is our refuge and strength… a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth be moved and though the mountains be toppled into the depth of the sea..though the its waters rage and foam and though the mountains tremble at its tumult…”

This description is about as violent as anything else that could be around us in our lives…Yet, we are given assurance in the next verse...”The Lord of Hosts is with us…”

When the waves of life pour over us, He is still in control.

THANKS BE TO GOD! He is with you and with me regardless of the circumstances. Therefore, “BE STILL” and rest.

AMEN and Amen.

In honor and loving memory of Larry

Libera is a favorite of ours. They even came to sing at our church in Tulsa a few years ago. Still gives me chills just to remember it!
