The IMPORTANCE of HONESTY
As most of my readers know, it is not my priority to write controversial opinions or political views because bringing hope and inspiration are my goals. In the light of these sad days when we have lost 13 of our best and brightest young men and women…and left Americans and many Afghan helpers behind, I believe “honesty” should be the topic for today.
According to Reuters, President Biden made a call on July 23, 2021 to Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, before Ghani fled the country. President Biden made this statement to Ghani:
“The perception around the world and in parts of Afghanistan, I believe, is that things aren’t going well in terms of the fight against the Taliban, and there’s a need, whether it is true or not, to project a different picture.”

If this was indeed the words from our President, who holds the highest office in our American government, it is worth discussing the need for honesty at every level...regardless of any political persuasion.
Let’s bring it down to the most fundamental level…the home. If we are consistent in teaching our children, we example what it is to be honest. If we are wrong, we say so. If they are trying to be dishonest, we correct them.
Raise the need for honesty to another level…what we are told about our health from those in charge of information for our well-being. We expect our doctors to “level” with us. We also expect that the CDC and other organizations will tell us the truth, so we can make wise decisions about our bodies…vaccinations, boosters and more.
We expect that there will be those rushing to promote money making deals within the pharmaceutical companies, because greed is and has always been a way of life. Somewhere along the line however, we expect someone to step up to the plate and tell us the truth. If we begin to see that politics or greed begins to slip into what we are told, our confidence begins to wane at all levels. How many times have we heard, “I just don’t know what to think or believe?” For those with the time and interest, the search begins for truth…online…or any place we hope to find it. Losing confidence is a difficult dilemma. It is in personal relationships and with those in any kind of leadership.
Are we able to demand honesty?
We’d like to demand…but some things take time. Most leaders and politicians don’t want to wait for the statistics to prove what we need to know. This may lead to wrong decisions and even death in some cases.
What do we do with those who deliberately put self-determination ahead of real truth?
With leadership, we can vote them out and hope for the best with those who follow. With relationships…business or personal, we can pray for wisdom in how to handle the attempt to deceive in big or small ways.
Here are a few facts about the withdrawal from Afghanistan and a promise made to the American people. You be the judge to its truthfulness:
- “We will leave no American behind.”
- There was a full-scale retreat ordered, abandoning base after base in the middle of the night, leaving weapons and aircraft and military gear, important biometrics data behind, all for the Taliban’s taking.
- In abandoning Bagram air Force Base, every American and every one of our Afghan allies in Kabul totally, completely defenseless — and in one month, the Taliban easily marched to the outskirts of Afghanistan’s capital city.”
- We have lost brave military men and women because of poor decisions and promises.
Therefore, it may be good to see what the Holy Scriptures says about HONESTY and INTEGRITY and those who deceive.
- Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out. Proverbs 10:9
- The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them. Proverbs 11:3
- Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit 1st Peter 3:10
- Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Ephesians 4:25
PRAYER: God give us wisdom when it comes to discerning truth and that, as believers in You and Your Son, Jesus Christ, that we will manifest the integrity that You wants of us all. Amen
We, here in America, want honesty in those whom we put our trust… personally or those in office. I would expect it is the same world-wide if “the truth” be known. The unfortunate part is that in many places of the world, speaking the truth is a ticket to great persecution. Pray for them as they hide and seek to live life truthfully and freely.
In 1978, the singer/ song writer, Billy Joel wrote the song, HONESTY. Some of you may remember it. Even though he sang of personal relationships, some of the words ring true in other situations:
“…but if you look for truthfulness, you might just as well be blind…it always seems so hard to give…all I want is someone to believe…HONESTY is such a lonely word…hardly ever heard…all I want from you…
In 1987, he performed it to the people who knew little about an honest government, becoming one of the first American performers to bring his full stage production to the Soviet Union since the construction of the Berlin Wall.
Enjoy and pray for our America and those in harms way in Afghanistan…especially the women, girls and interpreters.
