N.W.BOYER…Christian Author… Looking for the Coming of Christ

We are NOT alone

Atheists would have us think that we are “alone.” and an afterlife is only “wishful thinking.” Carl Sagan thought so. If you don’t know of him, ” Carl Sagan was one of the most well-known scientists of the 1970s and 1980s. He studied extraterrestrial intelligence, advocated for nuclear disarmament and co-wrote and hosted ‘Cosmos: A Personal Voyage.

Sagan was prominent in his circles and spoke out against believers in God, who he considered to be small-minded.

Sagan said this about an afterlife. “I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But as much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking.”

Sagan also believed that the universe and cosmos was way too large for one God to care about it all…whether it is the God of the Jews, Christians, Hindu or Moslem believers in God. He felt that these were people of a little religion. In fact, he believed we are ALL ALONE in this great cosmos.

He believed that the religious and their so-called “God” doesn’t care about individuals, as most might believe. Christ could not have been God’s Son, as the Holy Scripture says. Since Sagan believed only in the science he studied, worked on and believed in, did he have scientific knowledge of the absence of God?

Could he not look at the scientific workings of his own body, the creation of the trees, birds, mountains, stars and not believe there was an almighty and powerful God behind it all? One thing he could not grasp, is that BELIEF IS FAITH.

The Holy Scripture tells us:

“The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 1st Corinthians 2:14

We Christians, of course, will ask a simple question, “How would Sagan know the God of the Universe’s thoughts and plans?…especially if God never told him; he didn’t believe in the Holy Scriptures; he didn’t ask the Holy Spirit, and if God has given faith by spiritual discernment to believers in Him. Did he never really seek God?

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

What happened to Karl Sagan?

“Sagan died of pneumonia at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, where he had a bone-marrow transplant in April 1995, said center spokeswoman Susan Edmonds. The center had identified his disease as myelodysplasia, a form of anemia also known as preleukemia syndrome. Dec 20,1996″ ( Wikipedia)

OUR EARTH (NASA)

We will all eventually have the moment of meeting our Maker. How sad that those who don’t believe should live with such little hope. Surely, an unbeliever is truly alone without God…and God’s Spirit Who gives us love, assurance and peace.

What can we expect for those who have died?

“For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible … So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: ‘DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY.” (1 Corinthians 15:52, 54)

______________

Recently, I heard an excellent message by Dr. Tom Whartenby, who mentions Mr. Sagan and his beliefs. It is truly worth listening to as he honors the miraculous lives of the Saints who walked this earth…especially Saint Paul, who lost his life while bringing hope to the world. He also gives us the words of Martin Luther, the great priest who sought to find God’s way of salvation.

NO, WE ARE NOT ALONE! Life may be a struggle, but it has many rewards as God gives us courage to face all our concerns. Have faith and peace. You are NOT ALONE…GOD IS WITH YOU.
