Reach Out and be KIND
“From a wise mind comes wise speech; the words of the wise are persuasive. Kind words are like honey — sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
Whenever we start a new year, the emphasis may be to “trim down, get back to the gym and make good resolutions.” This may be all good, but have you ever thought that there is something else that is important to your good health? It’s mental, emotional and spiritual health. Our emotions often guide us. How we see life is what motivates us…for good or for bad. With our thoughts and emotions come words.
According to this verse from Proverbs, we will be WISE to remember that OUR WORDS are important. They can even persuade others in their living. If our words are KIND, they will effect not only our body but our very souls.
That is a strong statement, but how interesting in that it is compared to HONEY. We all know that of all the sweets, honey is perhaps the sweetest. It is certainly the best for us when our “sweet tooth” has a craving.
Thinking about this verse, “…sweet to the soul and healthy for the body” make this day… a day when we give great attention to our words. It may be the hardest right in our own homes. How often our thoughts bring out sarcasm or words that hurt.
Purposely reaching out with kindness heals the soul.
Does your soul need some healing? Mine does daily. We must be careful with our words for once they are said, they “can only be forgiven, not forgotten.” Have you ever thought that when you speak words into the air, that those words may travel through space and time…even into eternity? We would hardly want them replayed to us.
Give it a try this day. Reach out with kind words to those around you and those you meet whom you may not even know. If we believe the Holy Scripture, we will find that there will be PEACE WITHIN OUR HEARTS, MIND…and bodies as well as our soul.
This Scripture tells it plainly: “The Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” (2 Tim. 2:24–28).
Yes, when we were born, we were ALL MADE IN GOD’S IMAGE, regardless of who we are. It is up to us to remember that Christ walked this earth, died for our sins and rose again to give us eternal life. He reached out to all people…and so should we with the same humility and kindness.
