A New Direction

Probably right now there is someone reading this blog that is thinking about making a change in life.  It could be a new direction within a job, or a place to live, or even in an attitude.  New directions are often the start of something good, challenging, and even inspirational.  Change is not always easy because we are comfortable with the routine…ever the need to feel stable.   Nevertheless, stability, while is good, leads to boredom and boredom could even lead to depression.  We know that is not a good thing.

So what the heck…go for it and see what life brings you!   The old saying, “Nothing ventured…nothing gained”  may hold true for you today.   For me, I have already made a decision to move along and try to use some of the talents I believe God has given…as well as some of the opportunities I’ve had in life thus far to share with others.   I read recently that a good blog is not filled with “self” so forgive that fault today for I’m going to share with you, my readers, and in many cases friends…the move forward I plan for the next year.    In no particular order, here goes:

• I plan to continue blogging on whatever hits my fancy.
• I do not plan to become rich on anything, but want all that I do to have a purpose for myself and others.  Since I have enjoyed in the past some of these things, I plan to make myself and interests available as follows:

PIANO MUSIC…I PLAN TO LEARN MORE NOTES, CHORDS AND RUNS

Becoming a concert pianist is not my goal, but I could learn more for pure pleasure. When I was in boarding school, Mrs. Tollison taught me piano. I was about 10 years old. After leaving the school, my Mother could not afford a piano that would go up a flight of stairs to our apartment.  When my husband thought I should try to revive my lost art at a much…much older age, he made it possible for me.   He bought me one for Valentine’s Day.  So the promise to him is that I will spend more time playing it!  (Thank you, Honey!)

 

There you have it… a long list about my plans.  Oh, I forgot an important part…my emotional, spiritual and mental health.  This should have been at the top of the list.  I wrote a previous blog about listening to, reading, or being consumed with the “evils, sadness, and all the things that make one wonder ‘What is the world coming to?’….  which has led me to turn off the TV more, don’t read the internet headlines, and take care of my own brain, emotions and welfare.   They belong to me.  They were GOD- given and I should be furiously protective of them. I will have to admit that I cringe when I see a four-year-old…or older with a smartphone entertaining him/her when it should be around- the- table conversation that is training their little brains and enjoying moments with the family.  Protecting our minds and hearts is an important part of life, especially with those whose brains are growing and forming.  

I WILL LOOK MORE AT BEAUTY AROUND ME

• In God’s Words of wisdom through the Holy Scriptures if I spend more time reading it.
• In Nature…all about me if I will pay attention.
• The good and beauty in people  (Spend less time with negative people)
• Eat good foods that don’t upset my stomach or keep me awake all night!
• Look for someone who might need a helping hand, a thank you, or a bright spot for their day. (How about the hard-working waitress who would just like for people to be pleasant?)
• Feast on the stars, sunrise and sunset more often. I like clouds too.  Even the winds flowing through the trees and rain have their own beauty.
• Listen to more up-lifting music

I’m certain you have your own list.

One other thing:

I WANT TO REACH OUT MORE

If I know someone who is sick, terminally ill or going through a hard time, I would like to have the courage to reach out and ask if they would like me to pray with them.  Perhaps that is something you can try to do also if it is not a normal direction that you would take.    (I know, I can hear it now… “I really don’t feel comfortable getting into someone else’s space and faith. Isn’ that only for a priest or minister to do?”) 

Well, that is up to you, but you never know how God will want to work through you or me to give hope to someone who needs it. Being a minister of the Gospel is a calling and a profession, but if you know Christ as your Savior, then you are His child and He wants to work through you also.  If that little inner-voice prompts you to do something…you better do it because God has His purposes. You wouldn’t want to miss out on the blessings…even if you never know them until eternity.   Here is an example to what I mean.  When I was in college, I was short of money.  Going to my mailbox one day I found an envelope with $10 in it and a note that said, “Something for one of God’s children.”   I have never forgotten about this and believe me, it has been a long, long time since college days.  I never knew who was reaching out to me…but God does.
