Anxiety and fear can be the enemy of a healthy mind and happy life. With the world in the condition that it is, everything seems more pronounced and magnified. It is normal to worry, but worry only brings on more distress. It is the enemy of the body, mind…and even the soul. So, what to do when we are stressed out about so many things:
Will I really stay well if I follow all the health guidelines?
Is the government being straight with us?
Will things EVER be in any way normal to what life used to be for me?
Since only God knows the real answers and we don’t know the future, it is best that we take into our own hands what we can do to lessen our own fears. What might that be? The first is to know what the Holy Scriptures have told us that God wants in our lives. That is a priority.
How much time have you spent this week reading His Word and seeking answers to your own thoughts and fears? I ask myself that question also. We get so busy with other things that seeking out a quiet time to pray and read may take a back seat.
Let’s take a look together, no matter what age, and see if anything can be a comfort to us…giving us a better outlook…helping us to feel more secure and more at ease about things in life of which we may have little or no control.
From the Book of Psalms:
“In God I have put my trust, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.” (Psalm 91:4-7)
Sometimes it is hard to believe because we have had things come our way which made it hard to cope. We have had loved ones die or become very ill and we wondered, “Why God…where were You?” This is a normal reaction, but in all things…ALL THINGS…God is with us. He sees us through the good and hard times when we trust in Him.
GOD IS NOT IN THE SPIRIT OF FEAR. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
This is what we have to cling to in these difficult times… of businesses closed from lack of steady workers, up and down decrees about what is best for our health, violence in the neighborhoods and on the streets and terror for those fleeing to some type of safety.
If we dwell on all of this, it is likely that we will continue to have a “spirit of fear” and certainly not a “sound mind.” It will be up to us to actually decide what we will watch on TV daily…or hourly…and what we will put in its place. Could it be taking a walk, doing something good for someone else, working in the garden, listening to beautiful music, reading God’s word and a good book? You can make the list even longer of what brings you satisfaction and peace of mind.
“Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you . Yes I will help you. I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isiah 41:10
Whatever you are feeling or experiencing…or living through at this moment, give it to God. Let Him restore your peace of mind. Let Him be your Guide and comfort. He is simply waiting for us to turn to him for each moment of our day.
Determine that, with God’s help, you can conquer any fear you may be feeling. Ask Him to “Still your Soul” and to be right beside you…every step of the way. In Him, we can trust and not be afraid, no matter what today or tomorrow may bring.
It is by GOD’S PERFECT GRACE THAT OUR FEARS ARE RELEAVED
