We have heard it said that “Patience is a virtue.” Most of us may not feel virtuous when we sense a lack of patience…with people or circumstances. In a society of INSTANT GRATIFICATION, we lack the patience to wait for most anything. We might especially find this true when we have prayed about something and it seems that our patience with waiting for an answer is running thin. What we have to remind ourselves is that GOD’S TIMING is not ours. Just as we watch Spring come in the flowers and trees, it is not rushed, but has a perfect timing. Sometimes it comes early or late…and we have to wait for it. Nature is in God’s hands…and so are we.
Here are a few verses from the Holy Scriptures that might be helpful as you contemplate what God has told us when we are in need of patience:
Wait on the Lord. Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 27:14
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
For whatever things were written before were written for our learning…that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus. Romans 15:4,5
Prayer: Dear God, help me to rest in your perfect knowledge of what is good for me…and the ones I love. Bring your perfect peace into my heart, for You are my strength when I am confused by events and struggling to be patient. I pray in Your Holy Name, Amen
