For those of us who read the Bible as a source of comfort, love and forgiveness through Christ, our Lord, we don’t feel that we know or even understand the parts of the Holy Scriptures that the prophets of old believe that God gave them to warn all people of coming events.
When I read the Bible, I enjoy the Psalms and am familiar with most of the New Testament writings of Jesus and His days with the Disciples. However, this leads me to ask myself and you, my readers, if we as believers, should not also be looking into the writings of the Prophets of the Old Testament, who spoke of the future and how the words given to them from God would someday be fulfilled?
Yes, I can hear you now…“Do you mean Revelation, the last book in our New Testament, with all the strange things that are to happen?” The answer is “No” but we can look at one book, the book of Ezekiel….chapters 38 and 39 in particular, that are the words of the prophets.
Have you read in Ezekiel about GOG and MAGOG?
Probably some readers will say, “I’ve never heard of it!” These are the old terms in the Scriptures that refer to the northern, modern country that we now know as RUSSIA.
See these maps below:
In Bible Prophecy, the northern country referred to in the Bible as Gog and Magog that also has a connection to Israel, as it tells of an invasion of Israel after the return of the Jews from being scattered among the nations. We know this happened on May 14, 1948 and the Jews are still returning. See this map.
There is no way that I can explain this line of thinking about modern day Russia and the prophetic thoughts that are in the Holy Scriptures. I am not a Bible scholar. Most ministers do not attempt to tackle this with their congregations and certainly not in a Sunday service. It is involved and the details may be lacking as to the beliefs of some Christians and Messianic Jews …such as to whether Israel will be invaded before or after the return of Christ, the Messiah, for his Church…or when the great tribulation will begin. Regardless, it is fascinating and worth listening to those who have studied prophecy.
I heard such a man this week, who put many things in perspective…for our prayers and consideration. The one thing I liked was that he calmly and systematically gives his understanding of these verses in Ezekiel 38 and 39. He gives it his honest thoughts without being overly dogmatic. When he doesn’t know or understand something, he says so.
If you have any interest in Bible Prophecy and today’s modern world, as it could relate to the words of the prophets, Ezekiel and Daniel, then give yourself an hour to listen.
